Columbus, OH, 03/07/13 – It is only a couple of days out of the 25th Anniversary Sports Expo and the strongman world is already buzzing about 2014. Arguably, Mikhail Shivlykov was the favorite going into to the weekend and with Jacob Bodi’s run to second place; the stage is set for a donnybrook in 2014. “Shivlykov and Bodi had both been on that Arnold Amateur stage for a couple of years,” said ASC VP Mike Johnston, “In my opinion there isn’t clear favorite for next year. Unless Bak of Poland comes back, the field will be wide open.” Bart Bak made it to the main stage in 2012 and finished 3rd this year.

On the Strongman Fitness® side of the house, Arnold promoter Jim Lorimer expressed his amazement at the ferocity of the smaller weight-classes commenting, “Those girls were just incredible!” The competition on day one was outstanding in the fitness classes but only one European made it to day two. “The first year of the Arnold Amateurs was dominated by Americans too. But make no mistake the Europeans, South Americans and the rest of the world will be ready in 2014,” said Johnston.

Please see PDF spreadsheet for full contest results.

10/22/12 – Phoenix, AZ – The top nine American LW pros battled for supremacy as records fell and championship performances emerged

The current and former 105 Kg America’s Strongest Man® lead a very strong field in the 2012 event at the Europa Get Fit & Sports Expo in Phoenix, AZ this past weekend. The contest started in true ASC style with a Last Man Standing Log press, and in true ASC style an American record fell. After a successful 345# press three athletes went on to a record breaking 365# log. The previous record was 350#. Tom Mutaffis on North Carolina cleaned the record weight but was unable to hit the press. Mike Mastell and Sean Demarinis each hit 365# and took a share of first place and the new American Record.

The Yoke and Keg Medley saw current champ Zack McCarley take an early lead at 32.11 seconds for the 250-foot course. Demarinis managed 32.9 and Mastell did 33.92. McCarley continued his winning ways on the Husafel stone with an impressive 320 foot carry of the 360# stone. Johnny Wasiczko and Andy Deck finished 2nd and 3rd with 283’ and 253’ respectively.

The Giant Farmers revisited and old style classic by include a turn at 50’ to make a 100’ course with 325# per hand. Justin Blake put up an impressive 27.45 sec and Demarinis slide in under 30 sec at 29.59”, but it was McCarley again that blistered the course with a time of 25.15 seconds.

The final event was the 410# Atlas stone over the bar. Wasiczko set the early pace with 4 reps. Demarinis bested him with an impressive 5 reps. Zack McCarley was last to go. He hit his first two reps easily, but struggled a little with the next two. But, in the end the 4 reps gave McCarley a tie for second and plenty of points to earn his 2nd consecutive 105 Kg America’s Strongest Man® Title.

Congratulations to all of our athletes, thank you to our sponsors, especially Scott Porter of Spartan Stone Sleeves and Spartan Fit Cross Fit. We would also like to thank the folks at the Europa Get Fit and Sports Expo for a great 2012 season. For more information and photos from this years events please visit www.americanstrongman.com.
